Viorel Cosor is a Romanian abstract expressionist painter known for his dynamic gestural style and exploration of existential themes. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Graphic Arts Department, at the West University of Timișoara. Cosor is a member of the Romanian Union of Plastic Artists and earned a Doctorate in Arts in 2005.

His work often delves into the complexities of contemporary human experience, synthesizing elements of abstract surrealism and gestural expressionism.

Cosor's early artworks reveal a moody, introspective aesthetic, marked by density, minimal ornamentation, and a palette dominated by earthy browns, black, and white. As his style matured, he gravitated toward abstract expressionism, embracing vibrant colour and emotional spontaneity. His compositions weave dynamic strokes and energetic lines, occasionally hinting at figurative forms, reflecting a relentless curiosity for both structure and chromatic exploration. Born in Sânnicolau Mare, 1950, Romania. Resides in Timișoara.
